Which are correct:
1) I watched the children. They were dancing undismayed.
2 I watched the children. They were dancing, undismayed.

3) I watched the children. They were dancing happy.
4) I watched the children. They were dancing, happy.

I think the first two work and the second two don't. They would if one replaced 'happy' with 'happily'.

Gratefully,
Navi.

Well, "happy" is an adjective, not an adverb. Better to put "happily" either before or after "dancing".

'Dancing' and 'undismayed' do not collocate in any context I can think of.

Thank you both very much.

I think I have figured out a way to do it!

5) In spite of the bad news that was announced on the speakers, they kept on dancing undismayed.

6) In spite of the bad news that was announced on the speakers, they kept on dancing, undismayed.

7) After we said that we will agree to his conditions, he went home happy.

8) After we said that we will agree to his conditions, he went home, happy.

Don't these work?

Gratefully,
Navi.

6) is OK. 7) would work with "would" instead of "will".

They could also keep on dancing undismayed if someone criticised their style. It's not an obvious collocation, though.
