This is an entry from my diary. Please check it and correct any mistakes.

My mum bought some bamboo shoots the other day. They smelled like poo! The poo smell was filled with the kitchen and even the hallway. I couldn't stand it so I asked my mum either cooked them or throw them away. I suspect the smell was from the pickling liquid. The smell's now still lingering in the kitchen.

If you want to avoid repeating poo smell, you can write something like The foul stench filled the kitchen and even the hallway.

That's the wrong way round. You need one of the following:

The smell filled the kitchen and hallway.
The kitchen and hallway were filled with the smell.
