[Grammar] Difficult sentence

Hi every one
please in this sentence from harry potter 5 book :"please in this sentence from harry potter 5 book :"the inhabitants of Privet Drive had retreated into the shade of their cool houses, windows thrown wide in the hope of tempting in a nonexistent breeze"

I don't understand the meaning thrown wide (the meaning of thrown is propel (something) with force through the air by a movement of the arm and hand.)

"Thrown wide" means opened wide. I find the second use of the word "in" to be incorrect.

It sounds OK to me: '...in the hope of tempting a breeze to come in'.
