It's I left school​ in BrE - and that refers to secondary education.

Funny! In the U.S. that means you DIDN'T finish!

Yes. In AmE, if you say you "left school", it would mean you quit or dropped out of school.

By the way, it's "I am a student", not "I am student". However, if you have graduated and are not currently enrolled in a school, then you are not a student. So unless there is further context clarifying the situation, it makes no sense to say "I am a student. I graduated from high school two years ago."

This BrE speaker wouldn't. I was a student from the age of 5 to the age of 18. "Student" refers to anyone attending school, college or university, or studying privately.

Admittedly, when referring to my nationality, I would say "I'm British" but I regularly refer to large groups of people from the UK as "Brits".

There are far too many Brits living in the south of Spain.
I'm embarrassed when I see the antics of Brits abroad.
