"Funny" here is similar to "It's a coincidence that ...". The whole sentence means "It is a coincidence that you have asked me that". The rest of the reply would explain why it is a coincidence.

I would just add that "funny you should ask" is mainly AmE. I don't think it is much heard in BrE. For learners "Funny you should ask" means "I was just thinking about that". Last edited: Feb 5, 2016
