How long does the daily break time usually last for American middle school students? What do students do during the break?

I would add "daily" to distinguish it from the term/semester breaks.

@tedmc I don't think "daily" works there - it suggests there's just one break in the whole school day. In the UK, there's usually a short morning break, a short afternoon break and a longer lunch break. I imagine there's a similar setup in America.

That was too long ago for me to comment on. We were still using slate tablets back then in our little one-room schoolhouse.

The only break I had in middle school was for lunch. That was as long as the typical class period, somewhere around 40 minutes.

In high school they had to accommodate more students, so lunch was abbreviated to 30 minutes, so they could run 3 lunches.
