Hello Teachers,

I am not a teacher!
I am looking for a word to describe an insincere invitation. To give you some context, a person A made a call to another person B asking him to come to attend her wedding, but the person A is doing it so as not to come across as rude to the person B.
Am I right to call it an insincere invitation?

In all honesty, I trying to name my own feeling because the other person sounded as if they did not want me to attend the wedding having fought with me a long time ago.

I wouldn't call it insincere, exactly. That's something else.

Look up obligatory, pro forma, lukewarm, halfhearted, and unenthusiastic. One of those is probably what you want.

If you think it will be fun, go. If you don't, don't.

Maybe something like: "I do not like Mona, and she does not like me, but I do not want her to tell everyone that I am rude. So I have decided to send her a perfunctory invitation to my wedding and hope that she will not come."
