Hello everybody,

which one is correct? - Some say there’s always room for improvement but I dare disagree or but I dare to disagree.
I know there's an idiom - I dare say, but what about disagree? can I omit the to-particle in the sentence above or it would be a mistake?

Thanks.

Re: I dare disagree or I date to disagree

Hello everybody.

Which one is correct?

1. Some say there’s always room for improvement but I dare disagree.
2. Some say there's always room for improvement but I dare to disagree.

I know there's an idiom - "I dare say", but what about "I dare [to] disagree"? Can I omit the to-particle in the sentence above or would it [strike]would[/strike] be a mistake?

Thanks.

It doesn't work for me. I'd use "I beg to differ" or simply "I disagree".

(Note my corrections above and that you have a typo in your title.)

Thanks a lot! I noticed the typo after I had already posted the thread and couldn't figure out how to edit its title. Sorry for my badly written post - I'm not a native speaker and was in a hurry when was writting it. Will try to be more attentive and surely will pay more attention to my posts next time.

There's no need to apologise for errors - we're here to point them out and correct them. Note my other corrections above. Congratulations on using the correct form of "its" though!

Someone who dated to disagree would make a very disagreeable date.

I fixed the title. It was more than I could stand.

I agree with ems on "I beg to differ" as more natural.

Thanks a lot, once again. How much I love English. I wish this feeling were mutual.

I think that's exactly what Alena88 means. It's not the first time I've heard a learner express that they feel as if the language hates them, or that they're constantly doing battle!

It's an interesting perspective.

I am asking Barb if what she wrote was more/equally natural.

I would say they are equally acceptable/natural.

I beg to differ CAN be (but doesn't have to be) sarcastic or with emotion.
I respectfully disagree is generally used politely.
