I don't understand how the speaker (the lady) prounces "I don't like to go out..." (the relevant text says so). I sounds for me like "I don't night to out..." Please can you help with understanding what is wrong with my listening. Can you please listen to the tape. Thank you.

The lady is clearly saying to me "I don't like go go out .....", the sound quality is a little fuzzy, but that is definitely what she is saying. Her accent is the one spoken in my part of England.
How to hear that I cannot help you with.

'The lady is clearly saying to me "I don't like go [STRIKE]go[/STRIKE] out ....."'
Just to be clear.

It sounds like I don't like to go out to me.

Thank you.

Please confirm that you didn't hear "to" before "go". Thank you.

No it was "I don't like to go out", my finger slipped between the T key and G key on the keyboard which I did not notice in my original post.

'The lady is clearly saying to me "I don't like go [STRIKE]go[/STRIKE] out ....."'
Sorry, I was attempting to clarify and made a typo myself. I meant "I don't like to go out ..."'
(I've also pared back the ellipses this time.)

The text is correct. She says: "...I don't like to go out in it again - not for a while, in any case...."

Your hearing is fine. She has a strong regional British accent, and it might be hard for you to interpret it. it becomes easier as you gain experience listening to English speakers.

An African friend and I went to a Richard Thompson concert. Thompson is a British musician. Afterwards, my friend asked me if Thompson had been speaking English. He hadn't been able to understand a word of it.

Thompson's accent
(A different one than the self-conscious woman's.)
