WHich of the following sentences are correct?

1- If I had been born in a royal family, I would be a king.
2- If I had been born in a royal family, I were a king.

WHich of the following sentences [STRIKE]are[/STRIKE] is correct? I assume that you already thought only one was correct. On that basis, use "is". If you thought they might both be correct, you could use "are" but it results in an unnatural question. You'd be more likely to ask "Are these sentences correct?"

1- If I had been born into a royal family, I would be a king.
2- If I had been born in a royal family, I were a king. :cross:
