Hi.

I have a friend who learned bakery for a few years and now she’s making and selling cakes herself. She makes all sorts of pastry food. I said the following sentence jokingly to her:

If one day I make rich, I’ll employ you as my private pastry chef.

I wonder if the sentence is natural.

She makes her cakes and cookies carefully and the ingredients she uses are high-quality. Therefore, the things she sells are a bit expensive. I said the above sentence because I can’t employ her to make cakes only for me, but in order to sound funny and encourage her.

Yes, it's normal. I thought you were going to ask about the idiomatic "make rich" (which is OK too).

Really? It's a new one for me. I couldn't find much support for it on the Web.

Teechar, would you please suggest something different but sounds natural to you?

If I get rich one day, I’ll hire you as my private pastry chef.

By the way, can you think of what you might use instead of "something different" in the above?
Hint: it's two words (2, 11).

There is an idiom "make good", as in "I'm sure he'll make good one day". I accepted the OP's "make rich" on the grounds of analogy, I think. I'll admit I can't remember hearing it.

Hi.

I have a friend who studied baking for a few years and now she’s making and selling cakes herself. She makes all sorts of pastry [STRIKE]food[/STRIKE]. I said the following sentence jokingly to her:

If one day I become rich, I’ll employ you as my private pastry chef.

I wonder if the sentence is natural.

My suggestions.

A bakery is a place that sells baked goods. Did she go to cooking school or learn on her own?
