Have I made any mistakes?

In the last stages of his life, Kevin moved to the village of his origin, at the foot of the mountain. He told his relatives that he had come to die in peace, in the company of the spirits of his ancestors.

I'd say he moved back to his home village. I assume he is ill, so I would consider something like when he was dying.

Tdol,

The second sentence says "he had come to die in peace" so a reader can assume that Kevin is dying.

Some people can go home. Others can't. I'm sure it gave him peace.

We can, but I didn't like the last stages phrases much.
