I have an application that displays a dashboard. This dashboard is like a welcome screen which contains widgets. One widget displays a list of the most recently accesed files, another one displays a list of agenda items, and so on.

I'm not sure which preposition is correct in this context:

1. Increase the number of displayed agenda items in the dashboard.

or

2.Increase the number of displayed agenda items on the dashboard.

You said "I have an application" but the rest of the post makes it sound as if you're creating/writing the code for an app. Are you coding it?

No. It's just an application I'm using. However, I configured it to display more than 5 agenda items which is the default.

Is the sentence you're writing somehow an instruction to the app? I'm struggling to understand why you're using the imperative.

Yes, it sounds like an instructions to the app indeed. I needed it for Git commit message. Git is a version control system and the changes are reflected by using a present tense imperative form.

Remove the A package.
Move deleted files to the trash instead of physically deleting them.
etc..

So, in that context, your answer:

Increase the number of agenda items displayed on the dashboard.

works just fine. Thank you for your time. I appreciate it.

Use on.
