Hello.

Universal Components Ltd. is the biggest distributor of CV spares on British market. The company was established in 1908 under the name "Kellet". At the beginning, they were manufacturer and repairer of laminated springs but after recognising the market for truck and trailer spares they focused on replacement components for this growing sector.

Is it possible to say "are" instead of "is" in the first sentence meaning people who are working there, because "they" is used in the third sentence?

Thank you.

However, being consistent makes sense, so having started with the singular, sticking to it would be better.

They were a manufacturer...

I am wondering if it is necessary to put "the" before "British market". Am I right or not?

You are right to wonder. :)

Yes, you need the definite article. Universal Components Ltd. is the biggest distributor of CV spares on the British market.
