Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a name for my ltd. company in the UK. I found one with "Nordic" word. However, I'm not native and I'm not sure if this word could be funny for British people because of "dic". ;-) I'd prefer to avoid laugh when calling to a client.

Maybe "Norse" will be better/safer?

Thank you.

Welcome to Using English, staszekalcatraz.

'Nordic' is perfectly acceptable to everybody in the UK.

Only a few immature adolescents may snigger, but they'll soon grow out of it, and they probably won't be your customers anyway.

"Nordic" is perfectly fine in AmE also. No snickering.

There should be no problem with the name in either writing or speech. However, with certain sorts of company signs, it's easy to remove or cover letters, say the 'r' this case.

Thanks.

Exactly.

So which of these are the easiest to say for natives?
1. thenorden .com
2. thenordic .co.uk
3. thenord .co.uk
4. norde .co.uk

Anything starting with "the" will give pronunciation problems. Is it "thenorden" or "thenorden"?
We don't cope well with words like 'norde'. Is the 'e' pronounced or silent? If pronounced, how?
What about 'norden'?

I'd probably still take my chances with 'nordic'.

I recommend you also search your possibilities on Google. No telling what might come up.
