"John is attractive in a worn kind of way, but has the eyes of a kid with a discipline problem.
He is a master of irony and has a true enjoyment of the absurd."

I can't seem to understand what master of irony is like. What is it?
Also what do you mean by one has a true enjoyment of the absurd?
Can you please take an example and explain?

This is from a story. I figured I don't need to type all of the storyline from the beginning.
Therefore please tell me what comes in your mind first when you read the statements.

Thank you so much.

To me it means that John has a strange sense of humor that leaves the listener wondering whether he is being serious or not. More context would be needed to know for certain what was meant.

You don't, but you should name the title and author at least. More background would help us to give you better answers.

I understand. What do you think it means by being able to have a true enjoyment of the absurd?

If you understand, why haven't you named the title and author and given the background requested?
