Is "as fit as a horse" a common expression?

Is this correct and natural?

My granny is 90 but she's as fit as a horse.

It's non-standard.

Traditional similes are as strong as a horse and as fit as a flea.

Thanks to this thread, I've just learnt a new idiom - fit as a fiddle. Here is an example: Mary’s grandma is as fit as a fiddle. She still goes ballroom dancing every week and she’s almost 80 years old.

You could add fighting fit to your list.
Are these okay?

1. My granny is 90 but she's still fighting fit.

2. Gary seemed fine the last time I saw him; fighting fit. I can't believe he had a stroke.
