Hi, I' d like to know if the following sentences are OK. I had to use the passive form. Thanks.

1- The USA are made up of 50 States and the District of Columbia.
2 -The passive form is used only with transitive verbs.

3- The British flag is called The Union Jack. It is made up of three crosses.
4- English is learnt best if you visit a country where English is spoken.
5 -Italian clothing and accessoires are appreciated all over the world.

Before we look at the content, please use the Edit Post function to add a closing punctuation mark to the end of every example sentence, and a full stop and a space (or a space, a dash, and a space) after each number.
While you're doing that, change "ok" to "OK" or "okay".

First, edit your post to end every sentence with a punctuation mark.

Is this homework? If not, why did you have to do it?

Hi, I had to translate these sentences from Italian into English and since the grammar focus of the unit was the passive form I had to use it where possible.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I am afraid that we do not help with homework. Your teacher wants to know what you know, not what we know.

I'm a little bit too old to attend school (almost 48); I'm studying by myself.

And again, at this later time of writing, you still have not edited your OP.

Do you have a teacher or tutor who will mark/check/grade your homework?

Do you mean I have to write my original post everytime? I don't have any tutors. I have been writing in this forum for many years and I have never been asked about my personal life. Sorry, but it is somehow strange for me. As I said, I'm almost 48 and I'm not attending courses. If you feel more comfortable you can take your time to answer my questions; so you can feel sure that it's not homework someone gave me. If it was homework nobody would wait more than some days, I suppose. :-D

Sentence 1 has a couple of mistakes.

a) The USA is one thing. It is one 'whole' consisting of many 'parts'. Can you see the related grammar mistake?
b) There's a capitalisation error in your sentence. Can you spot it?

You have used the present simple passive correctly in each case. Well done.

No. You can click on Edit Post, make changes to your post and then click Save. (You have 24 hours to do this.)

I don't have any tutors and I'm not attending courses.

Please write that sentence in a signature line to remind us. It will appear at the bottom of all your posts in future.

To do this, click on Settings, scroll down to Edit Signature, type out the sentence and click Save Signature.

We'll be glad to continue helping you.
:)

Thanks a lot.
I think you mean I have to write "The USA is made up of 50 states..."
And what if I don't use the term USA, but United States of America? Would it be the same?
Thanks again

Correct.

Yes. Expanding the abbreviation makes no difference to the meaning.

The US also consists of some miscellaneous territories and possessions. For example, people born in Puerto Rico are US citizens.

ripley, I see by clicking on the symbol underneath your Member Info on the left that you have given 168 Likes, but it's rather surprising that after 605 posts you haven't yet found the Thank button in the bottom left-hand corner of every post.:-(

That's what ems was referring to above.

I think it's partly due to the dact that I am used to say thank you while talking, while I'm not used to say I like you and I prefer to use a symbol in that case; Moreover, from the cell I can't see neither the Thank nor the like button.

in the bottom left-hand corner of this post? You must have seen 'Like' lots of times.
