Hi,

I have a question about using past perfect tense.

Can I use the sentence "I had not walked yesterday" to indicate that "Yesterday, I didn't walked at all" or "Yesterday, I didn't walked for all day"?

I am not sure if the sentence "I had not walked yesterday" is gramartically correct in this case.

Thank you,

Re: Past perfect usage: Can I use the sentence "I had not walked yesterday"?

Hello, ThadaJ!

With such simple sentences, I recommend keeping things simple—past simple to be exact—and just saying "I didn't walk at all yesterday".

By the way, these two sentences are ungrammatical:
"Yesterday, I [STRIKE]didn't walked[/STRIKE] at all" or "Yesterday, I [STRIKE]didn't walked[/STRIKE] for all day"
If you use didn't, don't use the past form of the verb; use its base form. I'd also remove for from the second sentence.
"Yesterday, I didn't walk at all" or "Yesterday, I didn't walk [STRIKE]for[/STRIKE] all day"
