Dear friends,

I am writing an essay regarding my friend's upcoming trip to my house. I am trying to choose between two variants:

My friend plans to visit me next year sometime
My friend is planning to visit me next year sometime

I think the correct option is "is planning". Am I right?

Thanks!

They both need a final punctuation mark.

Dear friends, Unnecessary.

I am writing an essay regarding my friend's upcoming trip to my house. I am trying to choose between two variants:

My friend plans to visit me next year sometime.
My friend is planning to visit me next year sometime.

I think the correct option is "is planning". Am I right?

Thanks! Unnecessary. Thank us after we help you, by adding the "Thanks" icon to any response you find useful.
Note my corrections and comments above.

They're both possible but note that it would be more natural (in BrE at least) to say "sometime next year".

What was the exact prompt for the essay, when's it due and who's going to mark/grade it?
