The muezzin proclaimed/recited (the) adhan.

Which one is the suitable verb above, and should the word 'adhan' always be followed by the definite article?

Adhan is the Islamic call to prayer (salat) by the muezzin.

Just say: The muezzin called aldhan.

Will it not be confused as 'adhan' is also a name given to boys by their parents?

Not in print. If the sentence is about a muezzin whose name is Adhan, the name would be capitalized.
