Is the following sentence acceptable?

During my working at teaching, I have thus been contemplating:what kind of next generation are we seeking to develop through education?

As an NES but not a teacher, I find the sentence somewhat unnatural.

Personally, I would probably have said something like:

"In the course of [my] teaching [work], I have been considering(/addressing) the skills we are(/should be) trying to develop, in the next generation, through education."

PS: [potential omission], (/potential alternative)

There is another similar sentence as written. Is it natural?

Here are some events which challenge us to contemplate what kind of next generation we are seeking to develop through education.

Ashuito - Don't worry so much about the grammar of your sentence. It's a good sentence and as an NES, I completely understand your question. Would you like me to answer it?

Ashiuhto - Don't worry so much about the grammar of your sentence.

mrogus, one of the primary aims of this forum is to help people who are concerned about getting their grammar right.

Please read this extract from the Posting Guidelines:

You are welcome to answer questions posted in the Ask a Teacher forum as long as your suggestions, help, and advice reflect a good understanding of the English language. If you are not a teacher, you will need to state that clearly at the top of your post.
