1. Set up boundaries for yourself.
2. He didn't join in the yesterday's party.

In the above two sentences, if I just use set and join will its meaning change?

Use "set", not "set up" here.
How to cut down on tech-induced stress

1. Avoid leaving your smartphone next to your bed at night.
2. Be aware of your tech-tool usage, keeping a diary for a week of what devices you use, for what reason and for how long.
3. Set up boundaries for yourself, such as refusing to check emails before 10 a.m. or after 10 p.m.

That's what I saw in a journal in San Jose Mercury News, bu Patrick May, 2013.

See above, or you can just say:
"He wasn't at the party yesterday".
On of my classmates didn't attend the 8th period of the ESL class on every Thursday this semester (16:10~17:00), and one of the English-speaking teachers marked "didn't join in the 8th period" next to the student's name in the roll book.

1. Teechar got that right.
2. We wouldn't say it that way at all. Not even close. (See below.)

Abe: Tom didn't show up at the party.
Bob: He wasn't invited.

If you have to use "yesterday's party" omit "the" beforehand.

We would normally say the person was absent those days.
