I do not understand the meaning of 'posted' here. The original quote is from The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowls as follows:

For a few minutes she tried to break the jolts of the bus for him by posting with her body against the back of the seat, but her muscles soon tired.

Maybe she braced herself against the anticipated jolts.
 
It would be good to know more of the context. From what you have there, it sounds like she's bouncing up and down like a horseback rider to make him (whoever he is) more comfortable.

The verb post is a horseback riding term.
 
Somehow I missed the "for him" part. Unfortunately, with that in there it's less clear to me what she's doing. More context might help.
 
She was trying to be his shock absorber, cushioning all the impacts for him.
 
Make sure you ask us about the exact word. You asked why "posted" was used but then gave us a sentence that didn't include "posted".
