Hello. I'm wondering if the underlined sentence should be "My mom wondered if she shouldn't have let me watch so many nature shows where animals eat each other." in the context below.
What do you think? Thank you.

from Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate
(The writer is a 4th grader. He's never been much into make-believe stuff in the story.)

Except for my two days as mayor of Earth, I didn't seem to have much of an imagination.
My parents thought maybe I was too grown-up. Too serious.
My dad wondered if he should have read me more fairy tales.
My mom wondered if she should have let me watch so many nature shows where animals eat each other.
They asked my grandma for advice. They wanted to know if I was acting too adult for my age.

Hi:

To my ear "should" and "shouldn't" are equivalent in this context. What is your opinion?

Thank you. I think when using 'should', it means "I regret I let him watch many nature shows~." (I mean grammatically)
Isn't there any difference between "should" and "shouldn't" in this context?
In both cases, could it mean "I regret I didn't let him watch so many naure shows~"?

It means she regrets having let him watch so many nature shows.

Some animals eat other animals. They do not eat each other.
