[Grammar] Single Word Verb Past Participle Modifier

I was thinking of some alternative to some phrase in this:

"Campuses that used to admit almost every applicant are becoming more selective, and the students admitted are more academically prepared than a decade ago."


How is 'the students admitted' different from "the admitted students'?

There is only a very small difference and it amounts to this: "the admitted students" sounds slightly less natural. A native speaker would be much more likely to say "the students admitted." You may find this frustrating. I used to hate it when teachers would tell me this kind of thing while I was trying to learn other languages. But regrettably, there is no better explanation.
