"India was slave as the some other countries were."

"Indian were being treated as slaves as the residents of some other countries were."

Please check.

Many nationalities have been enslaved.

NOT A TEACHER

Hello, Tufguy:

I would be more comfortable in saying something like:

"India, along with many other countries, was colonized in the 19th century."

(I am, of course, limiting myself to the language aspects of your post, NOT to any political aspects.)

It does change the meaning a lot. India was, like some other countries, enslaved seems closer to the original to me.

Please guys, don't get hurt please. I just want to know that what is the correct way of saying what I find a bit confusing. Please forgive me if somebody got hurt and please do not take it seriously and personally because I just want to learn. I do not want to politicise this forum at all. The things or incidents happened in past those incidents have already taken place so do not think about them and please just help me to correct my sentences.

Nobody is 'getting hurt' We are attempting to find ways to express naturally the thought you were trying to express in your original sentences.

The first of these is not correct. The second, with my corrections, is possible, though I'd move the final 'were' to follow 'as'.

"Indians were being treated as slaves. As were the residents of some other countries."
