Hi, guys. Do you think it makes sense for someone to write " the best way to please me is buying me a brand-new phone?" To my mind, we would be well advised to change it to the best way to please me is to ...

I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Try: "The best way to please me would be to buy me a brand new phone."

Thanks for your reply. This sentence is said to have been written by a native speaker. I found it on a Chinese website yesterday. The original one is"the best way to win me over is buying me something."

Another Chinese student insists that it's correct since it's written by a native speaker. I have doubts about this.

Do you think it's okay to write something like the best way to win me over or please me is buying me a gift?

It's okay with me. It seems natural enough.

Here's your new thread title: Please Me.

I'm wondering why you choose to use "would" rather than "is?"

I've changed your thread title, peterking. I thought you knew that titles must include some or all of the words/phrases you're asking about.

It's not a continuing situation. It's a possible future.

(Please note that that is not really a question. Although the intent is there, it's not in the form of a question.)

Hi, guys. Unnecessary. There's no need for an opening greeting and reserve "guys" for your friends.

Do you think it makes sense for someone to write "The best way to please me is buying me a brand-new phone"? To my mind, we would be well advised to change it to "The best way to please me is to ...".

I'd like to hear your opinions.

Thanks in advance. Unnecessary. Thank us after we help you, by adding the "Thanks" icon to any post you find helpful.
