I want to say I used to be intimate with a person but no anymore.

Is this good?

I could cross the boundary between us so easily in the past. But now there is a barricade there. I feel like we are growing distant.

You seem to be saying there was no boundary between you and that other person, but now there is.

There was a boundary between them but because of their intimacy, they could easily cross that boundary. They are not as intimate as they used to be.

Does this whole boundary thing work?

What sort of "intimate" are you talking about? Do you mean they had sex? Do you mean they were very close and could tell each other anything?

They were a couple. So, all of the above. But now they is an eerie distance between them.

It's a little confusing, because a boundary is a kind of barrier. So it would make more sense if you didn't say there had been any boundary to cross.

Or, if there was a boundary that you crossed easily, you need to explain what it was. Social status? Military rank? Language? Age?

It seems to me that at one time there were no barriers -- physical or otherwise -- then for some reason one or both of them erected barriers.

And barriers!

I should have said barriers instead, but the word boundary was in my head. (Probably because it's in the title of this thread.)
:-D

I'm starting to think that maybe boundary does not work.

How would you describe this situation? I mean when two people were very intimate but have grown distant?

Just don't say there was a boundary in the past. For example: There were no boundaries between us before. But now . . . .
