Hi,
Would anyone please tell me what the differences in meaning between these pairs of words is.

1)a depressing film / a moving film

2)a cheerful person / a lively person

3)a romantic holiday / a relaxing holiday

Thanks in advance.

Try looking up the words here. Come back here if you have problems with any of the definitions.

This looks like homework, which we don't help with.

Let the dictionary be your first resort, not this forum.

I find it hard to believe that you can't tell the difference between the definitions of "romantic" and "relaxing".

Well try to explain your problem, because I can't see it. What parts of the dictionary definitions do you not understand?

I have seen films that have been very moving. Some of them have been depressing, others uplifting.

I know cheerful people who are not particularly lively, and lively people who have not been particularly cheerful.

I have been on holidays with male and/or female friends that have been relaxing. Not, as it happens, being gay, I have been on holidays with female friends that have been both romantic and relaxing; I have never been on a romantic holiday with a male friend.

Some of my romantic episodes have been far from relaxing.

Sometimes I am very relieved to be old.
