Could you tell me which is orthographically correct?
1. The "ea"-digraph can be pronounced differently, which is not regulated.
2. The "ea" digraph can be pronounced differently, which is not regulated.
3. The ea-digraph can be pronounced differently, which is not regulated.
As far as I am concerned, the 3rd is correct.

Use the second one.

Why only these three? Have you not considered any other options?

Please tell us what you're writing.

I'd say;

The ea digraph can be pronounced in at least three different ways. There are no rules to help the learner choose.

One clear way would be to use a different typeface, such as the italics used in post #6. Don't clutter with punctuation marks.

I think it's a considerable option to use single question marks in this case, right?
E.g.: 'ea' digraph, 'ow' letter combination, 'able' suffixed adjectives, 're' prefixed verb.

You mean 'single quotation marks'.
