What's a word to describe the sound of skate on ice when a person is doing ice skating?

This sound can be heard at the beginning of this video:

I need something instead of the red part:

Alice stood and gazed at the ice skaters as they swirled and glided on the rink, sending slivers of ice flying into the air. The sound of... echoed in her ears.

scraping?
Is this okay?

Alice stood and gazed at the ice skaters as they swirled and glided on the rink, sending slivers of ice flying into the air. The scraping of metal-bladed skates on ice echoed in her ears.

Or "grating", which suggests a harsh sound. Or "The screech of the blades on the ice..."

Never having viewed ice-skaters in real life, I can't say if either's a good fit. This is based on my opinion of what metal on ice is likely to sound like.

"Swoosh" and "swish" are two words you can use to describe the sound of skates moving through the ice.

It's not an objectionable sound, which is what "scraping" and "grating" are.

A swoosh suggests a gentle sound and it doesn't go with "echoed".

Maybe I'm thinking too much.

The person who's seeing this, enjoys ice skating. So, should I change echo?

If there's an echo it's imaginary.

"Echo" has a meaning. I assume you know what it is.

Did it actually echo? If so, use it.

But don't use it for effect.

I wouldn't normally disagree with you but I do here. An echo is possible in a closed ice rink, especially if there's no other sound.

I've never been in a closed-off ice rink but I've been in similar places.

I think saying "swoosh of the skates on the ice" is sufficient.

Not a fan of "echo" either.
