Hello,

According to an English test book the first sentence is incorrect :
1. They were playing tennis for two hours.
2. They were playing tennis all afternoon.
3. They were playing tennis from 5 to 7.

Is there a simple explanation why is that?

Many thanks,

Many thanks. Unnecessary. Thank us after we help you, by adding the "Thanks" icon to any response you find helpful.
The simple explanation is that the book is wrong. In the right context, that sentence is perfectly OK.

You need to give us the title and author of the book. This is a legal requirement on the forum, due to the strict copyright laws in the UK, where the forum is based.
