'unless' negative

Hello Everybody!

According to what I was taught, after ‘unless’ we are not allowed to use negative form because it is negative itself. Is it really true? Is it wrong to say "I will help you unless you don't want me to"? If so, which construction should I use?

It is not true that we cannot use a negative form after 'unless'. You can use one - unless you don't believe me.

Note that the last few words do not mean exactly the same as 'if you believe me'.
