I have read in some grammar books that using prepositions with the word "place" is not necessary, and in most cases it should be omitted as in
"The place I live in" should be written as " the place I live."

I am wondering if it is correct to say "my customer does not remember the place I picked him up from."
Or it is just fine without the preposition " from."

I have read in some grammar books that using prepositions with the word "place" is not necessary no comma here and, in most cases, it they should be omitted. as in
For example, "The place I live in" should be written as "the place I live."

I am wondering if it is correct to say "My customer does not remember the place I picked him up from" or if it is just fine without the preposition "from".
Note my changes above. Don't put a space after opening quotation marks.

Your second example is rather unnatural with "the place" and "from". We'd say "My customer doesn't remember where I picked him up".

Please give us a complete sentence containing "the place I live [in]".
