Hi all,

If I hold a Bachelor's in Business Administration, should I call myself a Business Administration graduate? Or is that only for Master's degrees? What should I refer to myself as then?

Thank you,

Re: How to call a Bachelor's degree holder?

I would say "I have a BA (or BS, whichever it is) in Business Administration."

Right. But in that sentence, specifically: "I am a Business Administration graduate". Is that correct or is graduate only for those holding a Master's and above?

Re: How to call a Bachelor's degree holder?

If I was pursuing a master's or doctorate, I would call myself a "graduate student." So, yes, someone with a BS or BA is a "graduate." But it's not normal to refer to oneself as a graduate. At least not for very long after the ceremony.

A person with a doctorate gets a special term. They can call themselves a "doctor."

But someone with a bachelor's or master's degree does not have a special name. I would describe myself as having a bachelor's degree, like I said above.

I see, thanks. So a graduate is shortly after graduation, after that you are not a graduate anymore, did I get it right?

No, you didn't. If you have a bachelor's degree you are a graduate for the rest of your life.

Note that it's not correct to say 'How to call a bachelor's degree holder?'

I will correct your thread title but can't change it for the remaining posts.

As Rover said, you are always a graduate. It is just not normal, in my experience, to refer to oneself in that way for very long after graduating.

The important thing is the credential. You have the degree, so describe yourself that way.

Thank you all for the clarifications

I often hear it in the shorter form:

I have a bachelor's degree in Business.
Or
I have a bachelor's in Business.
