Do you say like this? Don't you normally say "What grade are you in?" "I'm in the first grade of high school".
Please let me know if the underlined are all correct.

Ahmad: Hello, what year are you in?
Mary : I'm in the first year of high school. This semester, I'm taking Honors English, not regular English.

Yes, in American English you would say, "What grade are you in?" but the answer would be "I'm in 9th grade."

Who says "What year are you in"? In America or UK?

In America, I would answer "2014."

In AmE, I would say "what grade are you in" only if the person were in elementary/grammar/grade school. For high school or college, I would use "year".
