A says: He used to sing and dance when he was with us.
B replies: He did the same things with us.

The intended meaning is: He did the same things when he was with us.

Does B's reply work in this context?

I think we need the 'when he was', but I am not sure.

I would use "when he was " with the second one.

Is it possible that "He did the same things when he was with us" means the same thing as "He did the same things with us"? I guess it depends on how you look at it.
