I cannot understand this part : "which has most illogically stigmatized as diabolism in others that which it has claimed as a special mark of sanctity in itself." i need a clarification."
Is there anyone who can explain it or rewrite it in another form?
Is there a comma needed? :which has most illogically stigmatized as diabolism, in others that which it has claimed as a special mark of sanctity in itself." i need a clarification."

Italy has, in some ways, been superior to all other European states in its treatment of Spiritualism—and this in spite of the constant opposition
of the Roman Catholic Church, which has most illogically stigmatized as diabolism in others that which it has claimed as a special mark of
sanctity in itself.

To put it very roughly:

In others, the Catholic church has stigmatized spiritualism as diabolism.
In itself, the Catholic church has claimed spiritualism as sanctity.

Does that help?

According to your description, does "the Catholic church wanted to show Spiritualism as diabolical while it knew that it's {Spiritualism} holy/sacred"?
