Hi,

Let's say that my friend reads a book and, when I asks her what she reads, she says, Black Skin White Masks. Not knowing who is its author, I ask, ''Whose book is that?''

My question is: Can we say 'whose book is that' instead of 'who wrote that book?/who is the author?'

I may be thinking in Turkish, which languge we can use that structure in the very same meaning.

Thanks.

I am not a teacher.

I would probably say something like, "Who's that by?"

"Whose book is that" could be an inquiry about possession rather than authorship.

And that would be my automatic interpretation. The authorship angle would not be first on my list.
