I certainly know that. I've been trying to draw your attention to this -> 'Why is John washing the car and David isn't?'. We say 'why is John ... ?', but for some reason it is 'why ... david isn't?'. Isn't 'is' supposed to precede the subject in a 'why' question in English? That's what looks somewhat strange to me here.The use of "is" is very common in that sort of question. (See below.)
