A question to native speakers in particular. How do you understand 'x' following one's name at the end of informal emails?

Peter x

Is it just something you might want to do when writing to a friend? Or perhaps it has a more flirtatious undertone?

X = kiss.

It is normally affectionate, not flirtatious.

Ok, so not something one would want to be reading into?

Not normally.

If your boss, who is normally very staid, sends a reprimand to you with 'X' and an invitation to meet to discuss the problem in private, then you might start worrying.

;)

Fair enough.

I wouldn't use it much with friends. I use it with my family, though.
