Hi folks,

Could anyone tell me what Dorothy meant when she said, “The only thing I know about museums is that you shouldn't eat the veal in the cafeteria” in The Golden Girls Season 2 Episode 9?

The context is:
B: Dorothy, maybe it’s time you reconsidered working at the museum with me.
D: Honey, come on, we've had that conversation. The only thing I know about museums is that you shouldn't eat the veal in the cafeteria.
B: Dorothy, you can't find a job and you need the money. Besides, it might be fun working together.

Thanks.

It could be an in-joke. Maybe in the past she got food poisoning from eating veal at a museum cafeteria. Maybe she's assuming that the veal will be as old as everything else in the museum.

She means to say that she knows nothing about historical artefacts and museums. The only thing she's qualified to talk about is the food they serve.
