Are independent schools also called private schools in the UK? Do other English-speaking countries call private shools "independent school" if you know?

Yes, independant schools are also called private schools in the UK. I don't know about other English speaking countries.

In the UK we can say private schools, but the schools themselves generally use the term independent.
Rather confusingly, public schools is also in fairly wide usage for private schools and not state schools. The term is, I believe, an old one dating back to the time when the wealthy educated their children at home.
