It's very fun or it's very funny

If I want to say one place was very interesting, how can i say? is that ok to use "It was very fun" or "it was very fun place" or "it was very funny" or "it was very funny place"?? sometimes this makes me confuse a lot. please help me out~

great fun = enjoyable (don't use 'very')

I would say "It was lots of fun", but "great" is OK too.

That wouldn't work. "a" modifies non-count "fun".
Try,

It was a fun time.
