root = cheer for?
Hi,
Can the verb 'root' mean 'cheer' too?
Example: 'Will you root for Manchester United in the next game?'

Yes, it can mean that.

It can, although it also means to "support". "Cheer" suggests actually making a noise, whereas you can support a team without making a sound - you just really, really want them to win!

But what route would you take to take root in Australia?
