Not exactly. You can use "much" in the positive, but it's not common.

It is more commonly used with other modifiers:
She is so much trouble! = She is a lot of trouble.

And in the sentence "B: No, I don't much petrol left." - did you mean "No, I don't HAVE much petrol left." or it is possible to skip "have"?
