    Unhappy Active or passive?

And there, in the garbage she did hate, poor Sarah met an awful fate, that I cannot right now relate because the hour is much too late.

Any help would be appreciated. Although the garbage is introduced before Sarah, I am still confused if to whether the garbage is the active in this sentence as there are so many clauses.

    Thank you in advance!

Poor Sarah [subj] met [verb] an awful fate [dir. obj] in the garbage [complement] that she hated [relative clause].

"the garbage" is neither active nor passive. These terms are used for verb structure of a sentence. "in the garbage" is an adverbial complement to "met".
That sentence is in the active voice.

    Thanks Raymott!

That certainly makes more sense now by breaking it up.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Cheers
