mind somebody that can make you
Learner/
My question is about this sentence.
two kids (brother and sister) were fighting then their father intervened and said:
Who started it? asked Atticus (the father), in resignation.
The sister answered: Jem (the brother) did. He was trying to tell me what to do. I don't have to mind him now, do I?
Atticus smiled. "Let's leave it at this: you mind Jem whenever he can make you. Fair enough?
To mind him (green) means to obey? (My guess)
Let's leave it at this (blue) means Let's agree? (My guess)
and finally
You mind Jem whenever he can make you. (red) (I have no clue what the father meant by that).lol

It means "obey him whenever he can force you to".

I haven't got this this time.
Do you mind? No ~ agree
Do you mind? Yes ~ don't agree
Didn't father advise her to resist?
He was trying to tell me what to do. I don't have to mind him now, do I? (Shouldn't she have said,'I had to mind him, right?')
