to accept/to agree

Hello!

I'm trying to understand the difference between "to accept" and "to agree".

Are the sentences accurate?:

-You accept an offer

-You agree to do something.

Hi,

The difference may be subtle but important.

Both sentences are OK, but in other contexts you can accept something whilst at the same time not agreeing.

For instance you may have claimed compensation from a company of £100. They may offer you £50.
You may accept that £50 is all that you'll get whilst not agreeing that it's reasonable.

You can accept what is given or offered, but you agree when you think something is being done or has been done the way you consider appropriate and convenient for you. For example:

I agreed to buy flowers, but asked my friend to buy sweets and postcards for the girls of our student group

He didn't agree to surrender and kept on fighting till he was finally killed by them

If you don't agree with something suggested by your boss, do not hesitate to inform him about it

You need to accept our rules no matter how tough they are

Do you accept his permanent drunkiness or you want to combat it and help him get rid of this habbit?

I accept his terms, but I don't agree to sign any documents until we meet in private

I would "agree to a request" and "accept a resignation".
